History of the Mapua Auto Centre

1987 - Starting from nothing, Peter left his regular employment to purchase vehicle requiring panel and paint work ready for resale. Peter looked after the physical work and Marion managed the bookwork.

1989 - The business diversified slightly by taking in panel repairs for clients.

1992 - Relocated from being based at home, to leased premises in Stafford Drive (prior to Warren Place being developed). At this stage the business is still predominately panel work with a little mechanical repairs coming in. We took on our first employee. We purchased our first hoist. We joined the M.T.A. (Motor Trade Assn.) and we gained W.O.F. (Warrant of Fitness) Certification.

1994 - Our first employee left and we replaced him with an Automotive Technician Apprentice.

1996 - Saw us introduce Tyre sales and wheel balancing. We added a part-time panelbeater/spraypainter to our staff. (Staff now two full-time & two Part-time)

1997 -Relocated the business into a new, purpose built workshop @ 7 Warren Place (our present location). Changed the employment status of the part-time panelbeater/spraypainter to full-time. (Staff now three full time and one part time)

1998 -Launched Mapua Auto CardTM Nurture ServiceTM as a value added client service. Introduced a Fully Computerized Wheel Alignment service. Purchased four post hoist. Computerised the office.

1999 - Employed a third, full-time Automotive Technician. (Staff now at four full-time & one part-time) Apprentice now certified.

2000 - Purchased more specialised equipment to enable us to offer a more comprehensive range of services on clients vehicles. An Automatic Transmission Flush Machine, Anti-Freeze Flush machine, Fuel Injector Testing and Reconditioning. Took on a Automotive Technician Apprentice.

2001 - Formed a Company, Mapua Auto Centre Ltd. Employed a part-time office assistant. Purchased another new hoist.

2003 - Enlarged the engine room. Built in a specialised Wheel Alignment / Tyre Fitting Bay. Employed a part-time Automotive Technician. Purchased two new hoists. (Staffing levels are:- three full-time and one part-time Automotive Technicians; two part-time administration; one full-time panelbeater/spraypainted; two part-time cleaners)

2004 - Fully time technician left, replaced with new apprentice technician. Full time panelbeater left. Downscaled panel repairs to three days per week. (staffing levels are: two full-time and two part-time technicians; one part-time panelbeater/spraypainter; two part-time administration & two part-time cleaners)

2005 - Installed - 1. exterior vehicle wash down area with grease traps. 2. Security fence around the yard perimeter. 3. Asphalted the yard. 4. Purchased a steam cleaner & a Snap On Scanner. Purchased a photocopier to provide a photocopying service to the Mapua community.

2007 - Closed down Panelbeating side of business. Installed "Vehicle Test Lane' (brake roller & shock absorber tester). Enclosed area for "Small Engine' servicing & repairs. Build new office upstairs.

2008 - Purchased 'Hanatech' diagnostic scanner. Took on another apprentice technician.

2009 - Upgrade Wheel Alignment Computer; Tyre Machine and Wheel Balancer

2010 - Upgrade Hanatec Scanner; Enlargened and upgraded Customer Lounge, Reception and Office. Upgraded photocopier and Photocopying service to full colour.

2011 - Upgrade Wheel Alignment hoist.
